Speech, Feeding, & Myofunctional Therapy Services for Kids
It Takes A Village Therapy provides in-home therapy services to children in Oakland County, MI.

Evaluations
Your child’s initial evaluation will help our speech therapists identify their strengths, characterize their challenges, and set meaningful goals for therapy. While evaluations look different for every child, the process may include:
Parent interviews and child observations
Oral motor skill assessments
Formal standardized testing
Our Approach
At It Takes A Village, speech therapy looks a lot like play! We believe that communication is fun and should be used to build relationships.
Our speech therapists also spend time coaching parents on how to use play and everyday interactions to help their child grow between sessions.
Our ultimate goal is to advance your child's communication and feeding skills while also having a good time!
Myofunctional Therapy
Myofunctional therapy is like physical therapy for the tongue. We’ll walk your child through targeted exercises to re-train their tongue, lips, cheeks, and soft palate— allowing them to breathe, speak, sleep, and eat better.
Your child will be provided with homework that includes daily myofunctional exercises. While homework activities typically take less than 10 minutes to complete, they will make a big difference towards reaching your goals!
Feeding Therapy
Let’s bring the joy back to mealtimes! Feeding therapy will allow your child to access food in a way that is both comfortable and easy for them. Our feeding therapists will work closely with you to determine which foods feel safe to your child and which are often refused.
Together, we’ll problem-solve your child’s feeding challenges and develop a plan to help them safely bite, chew, swallow, and eat a variety of foods.
Early Intervention for Late Talkers
Is your toddler struggling to use words to communicate? Whether they have yet to speak their first word or they have a hard time expressing their ideas without frustration, we can help.
Our speech therapists will teach you how to use play and daily routines to help your child communicate. Our goal is to equip you with specific strategies that you can use any time and anywhere!
Neurodiversity-Affirming Speech Therapy for Autism
Our neurodiversity-affirming approach means that we take time to build relationships, honor each child’s differences, and encourage communication during play.
We do not use a series of rewards and consequences to promote preferred behaviors. We want your child to be their authentic self, and we seek to create opportunities for them to blossom and achieve in speech therapy!
Speech Therapy for Articulation & Childhood Apraxia of Speech
Speech therapy will help your child speak more clearly, express their needs, and more fully participate in school and life. We’ll use fun games and activities to encourage your child to say challenging sounds and words correctly.
You will also gain tips for how to encourage your child’s speech sound development at home and how to help them communicate with less frustration.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
We know your child has so much to say, and we’ll work hard to find the best way for them to do so. Our speech therapy sessions will focus on giving your child another way to express their wants, needs, and ideas through AAC— even when oral speech is too challenging.
AAC options range from the use of sign language to the use of a high-tech voice output device. We can’t wait to show you how empowering AAC can be!
